Hannah More School is a private day school serving students with high functioning autism, emotional disability or specific learning disability.  Our program consists of classes for students in grades 5-12, offered in a supportive learning environment.  More information about how students are enrolled in Hannah More is described below.

Admissions Process – Reisterstown Campus
Students come to Hannah More through a referral process. The referred student’s local school district office sends information about the student to Hannah More for consideration, after it has been determined that the  local school is not able to implement the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP). Previously during a central IEP meeting the student will have been approved for a private day school placement, with the parent or guardian giving permission for the records to be sent to an appropriate non-public school, such as Hannah More.

The admissions director reviews the referral information which typically includes psychological and educational evaluations, the student’s IEP, school transcript and social history. If the information indicates that the student meets the basic admissions criteria, a Preadmission Interview is scheduled with the student and his or her parent/guardian. During that interview the referral information is reviewed for accuracy, some additional questions are asked and a tour of the school is included.  After the interview, the admissions committee meets and decides whether Hannah More is the appropriate placement for the student. The committee’s decision is based on whether this school has a program in which the student can be successful and access their education to the level at which they should ultimately be able to, given the supports provided.

Student Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for consideration, students must be in at least 5th grade upon admission and between the ages of 10 and 20.  They should be able to handle an academic program with set minimum levels of functioning. We do not accept students who are approved for the Alternate Maryland School Assessments (AltMSA). We do not accept court appointed students; those having a history of significant antisocial behaviors; or who are actively suicidal and need a more intensive level of psychiatric services.

Student Enrollment
Students may be enrolled at any time during the year depending on available space in the required classes. Prior to the start date an orientation meeting is scheduled with the student and family and the treatment team (home room teacher, teacher assistant, and social worker).  Students are able to start in the program once a schedule of classes has been set up, the transportation is in place, and the orientation meeting has occurred.  Please note that Hannah More is a ten-month program.
