Hannah More is a nonpublic special education school serving students, ages 9 through 21, with a primary disability
of autism (including Asperger's Syndrome and Pervasive Developmental Disorder), specific learning disabilities, emotional
disability, or multiple disabilities.
Referrals to Hannah More are made by local school systems. (Parental referrals are accepted with the understanding
that the parent must assume full financial responsibility for their child's tuition.)
Local school systems provide background information
on each student such as psychological and educational evaluations, school transcripts, social histories, and the Individual
Education Plan.
If a student meets the admissions criteria, after a review of the referral information, an interview is scheduled for
the student and their parents with the admissions director and a member of the clinical staff.
In addition to their academic deficits, students appropriate for Hannah
More School typically have difficulty
building and maintaining personal relationships with peers and adults and display behaviors such as withdrawal, frustration,
anger, sadness, or oppositional behavior. Some students may have a serious
psychiatric disorder (i.e. bi-polar, major depressive disorder, schizoaffective disorder, anxiety disorder, or school phobia),
which directly impacts their ability to succeed in school.
Following the initial interview, Hannah More’s Admissions Committee reviews the student’s case. The final
decision to admit a student is based on the needs of the student and the ability of Hannah More to meet those needs. If the
student is determined to be appropriate for the program, he/she is assigned to a treatment team comprised of a social worker,
a homeroom teacher, and a teacher assistant. The student and his/her family will meet with the treatment team for an orientation
meeting to set specific treatment and behavior goals prior to the student's first day of school.
Hannah More admits new students throughout the school year. Tours of
the school are available by appointment. Call 410-526-5000 ext. 633 to schedule a tour or to reach the Admissions Director,
Mrs. Carolyn Martin.
