Hannah More School offers a comprehensive program for middle and high school students with autism spectrum disorders
- Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) or Asperger’s Syndrome.
The middle school program consists
of three classrooms, each with a teacher and teacher assistant. The curriculum includes reading, language arts, math, social
studies, and science. Students rotate through three special area subjects: art, music, and physical education.
Speech therapy for pragmatic
language and occupational therapy for sensory and integration of fine motor problems is also available.
The high school program consists
of two models of service for students: regular and self-contained. The curriculum includes English, math, social studies and
science. Students may take electives in art, music, physical education, computer technology, horticulture, automotive, culinary
arts, building trades and communications.
The first model in the high
school program is for students identified with Asperger’s Syndrome or identified as PDD and who are functioning academically
close to grade level. Students in this model rotate throughout the school for all subjects. Students in the self-contained
model take most of their subjects in one classroom.
All students are provided activities
outside of the classroom including recreation time, art/music therapy, individual speech and language therapy, individual
clinical therapy, art, practical arts and physical therapy. Occupational and physical therapies are provided for those in
need of these services.
Students enrolled in the high
school program have the opportunity to earn a high school diploma or a certificate of attendance. Hannah More offers three
diploma tracks: college completer, technology completer and work study completer.
